Judging

Judges — with certifications that qualify them to observe, mark, and measure the performance of competitors — are at the center of the action during events. Though not difficult in principle, judging requires an in depth understanding of rules and scoring practices and the ability to make fair, unbiased decisions. That said, it’s easy to understand why judging in integral to the success of an event.

In an effort to provide our clients with consistent and impartial judging, Paragon Spirit Productions’ Scoring Technicians adhere to the following standards:

  • Watch routines from beginning to end, scripting all level-appropriate and non-level-appropriate skills (when applicable);

    • This allows us to adequately determine the difficulty sub-range in which a team has scored.

  • Routines are reviewed to ensure the accuracy of the information scripted and to check the legality of the skills performed;

    • Skills performed illegally are not awarded difficulty credit;

  • Once a sub-range has been determined, scoring technicians use difficulty drivers to determine the final score within a category, keeping in mind the distinction between the quantity of skills vs. the skills method of performance;

  • Finally, we provide objective, kind, and honest feedback using comments that justify scores.

*Scoring Technicians follow the same process when judging the execution of technical skills/elements*
